I love food. I love places that serve food. I love people that make food. The elegance and refinement invested into a great dish of food deserves subtle lighting, attention to detail, and an ability to make viewers salivate at the mere sight of it.

Who can resist a smooth South American? Not me, it seems. I picked up a packet of this here Coffee Johnny yesterday, made by the good people at the Ouseburn Coffee Co. Apart from being produced by a local business, the thing that really sucked me in was the story behind the name of the blend, and so it goes: “our superior blend of South American coffee takes it’s name from the local blacksmith and flamboyant bare knuckle boxer John Oliver, who gained notoriety throughout the city for his towering height and a trademark white top hat. No one can now be sure exactly why he was named ‘Coffee Johnny’ but we suspect he liked a brew of one sort or another so raise your cup to Coffee Johnny 1829-1900.” Ha. Totally and utterly random. I love it!

eat. drink. latin.

eat. drink. latin? yes. please. The latest addition to the Las Iguanas family recently opened on Grey Street, right in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. It’s everything you’d want from a latin restaurant; lively, colourful, fun, and tastey. Pop in sometime and wrap your chops around a lamb empanada and wash it down with a cheeky caipirinha. Just a suggestion!
